What are Mechanical Rights
The license issued by a publisher or his agent, usually to a record company, granting the record company the right to record and release a specific composition at an agreed upon fee per unit manufactured and sold. The fee in 2006 is 9.1 cents for each recording of a song that is 5 minutes or less - or - 1.75 cents per minute for each recording of a song longer than 5 minutes (rounded to the nearest minute).
